It's Gardening season!

We are seeing a lot of 'garden casualties' in our chiropractic clinics at the moment, especially involving low back pain, but also shoulder injuries and repetitive strain injuries in the wrist and elbow from gardening (hedge cutting is a particularly tough job for the upper limbs).

Here are a few tips from our chiropractors to minimise lower back pain and upper limb injuries related to gardening.

20 minute rule - work for 20 minutes then take a break

Rotate between jobs - have several job on the go and rotate between them to minimise the same repetitive movements/strain

Use kneeling pads if working low down (this will protect your knees too!)

Bend your knees, use your legs more than the lower back whilst gardening

Use good ergonomic tools

Enjoy your gardening still....safely!
